Like many other CGIM students at Pratt, the Museum of the Moving Image was not exactly a new experience. Though the museum holds a small wealth of information, I feel that the exhibits do not change often, and that it is focused on informing a much younger audience. Topics such as the history of traditional animation using the kinematiscope, and persistence of vision are clearly explained and exhibited in descriptive context, but to a student of media arts and computer animation, the knowledge given by the museum is equivalent to looking up “animation” in the dictionary. Most people do not get the chance to learn about cinematic makeup and costume, or line dubbing so to some it might be a wonderful experience, just not for juniors of this department.
