Shoneck and I were considering nanotechnology, more specifically nanobots. These robots would be small enough to assemble anything at the atomic level granted the correct elements were provided. Imagine a robot small enough to remove cancer cells, or create a turkey dinner from a bag of garbage. These nanobots known as "assemblers" clearly would be small in size. To have any manufacturing power, the first step would be for one assembler to create another one, and so on. Growing at an exponential rate, what if they ignore the command to stop duplicating. Would the earth turn itself into a heap of assembling grey matter?

As tempting as the capabilites are, I am much more interested in the potential destruction because of a simple programming glitch. What would be some preventitive methods?

Another topic idea was the artist Wayne Barlowe, but I'll let Shoneck fill you in more on that one.

Brian and I are considering doing a presentation on cybernetics and/or wearable computing.
I would like to concentrate our research on human cybernetics (as opposed to animal, like the cybernetic rats). So far the most interesting projects I have encountered were the Kevin Warwick project and researches of Steve Mann. It would also interesteing to draw a line from science fiction to reality because most of the inventions in cybernetics were firstly introduced by science fiction writers.
